2026 tax guide

How Danish salary tax is calculated after the 2026 reform

Danish payroll first deducts the 8% labour-market contribution. State and municipal taxes then apply after allowances. From 2026 the former top tax is split into middle tax, top tax and an additional top tax for very high incomes.

Updated 22 June 2026. Examples use the 2026 average municipal rate of 25.0%, no church tax, a single adult, standard employment and job allowances, and no other deductions.

What changes Danish net salary?

Municipal tax varies by address

The 2026 municipal rate ranges from roughly 23.39% to 26.30%. Copenhagen is at the low end. Enter the relevant municipality rate rather than relying on the national average.

The 2026 high-income system has three layers

Middle tax, top tax and additional top tax are cumulative above their separate thresholds. A salary does not move entirely into a higher rate; only the excess above each threshold is charged.

Church tax is optional

Members of the Danish National Church generally pay municipality-specific church tax. Enter the percentage from the preliminary income assessment or leave it at zero.

Your tax card contains personal deductions

Transport, pension, union, unemployment-fund and interest deductions can change the monthly allowance and withholding percentage. They are not inferred from salary alone.

Methodology

How accurate is this Denmark salary calculator?

The calculator applies 2026 AM-bidrag, bottom, middle, top and additional-top taxes, the personal, employment and job allowances, a chosen municipal rate and optional church tax.

It does not model the overall tax ceiling, spouse transfers or personal deductions shown on an individual tax card, so actual withholding can differ.
