Questions
How is net salary calculated in Sweden?
You pay municipal tax (which varies by municipality, averaging 32.41%) on your income after the basic allowance (grundavdrag), plus 20% state tax on income above the threshold. The earned-income tax credit (jobbskatteavdrag) then reduces the bill, which is why take-home is higher than the headline municipal rate.
What about the 7% pension fee?
Employees nominally pay a 7% pension fee, but it is offset by a matching tax credit, so it does not change your take-home. Like most Swedish calculators, this tool leaves it out.
Which municipal rate should I use?
The default is the national average of 32.41%. If you know your municipality rate (they range from about 29% to 35%), enter it for a more accurate result.
