How Swedish salary becomes lön efter skatt
Swedish employees pay municipal income tax and, above the threshold, state income tax. The basic allowance and work tax credit reduce the result. Burial, public-service and optional church fees also form part of final tax.
Updated 22 June 2026. Examples use the 2026 average municipal rate of 32.38%, the standard 0.292% burial fee, no church fee and an employee below age 66.

What changes Swedish net salary?
Municipality is the largest local variable
Municipal and regional tax is combined in the rate entered. Rates differ across Sweden, so replacing the national average with the rate on your tax table improves the estimate.
State tax starts after the basic allowance
The 20% state tax threshold is measured on taxable earned income. For someone below 66, the corresponding gross breakpoint is higher than the SEK 643,000 taxable threshold.
Church fee is membership based
Membership on 1 November before the income year generally determines whether the Swedish Church fee applies. Enter the parish rate or leave it at zero.
SINK is a separate foreign-resident system
Qualifying people living abroad can be taxed under SINK at 22.5% in 2026 instead of ordinary assessment. This calculator models ordinary resident employment taxation, not SINK.
Methodology
How accurate is this Sweden salary calculator?
The calculator estimates the 2026 basic allowance, municipal and state tax, work tax credit, burial fee, public-service fee and an optional church fee.
Official monthly tax tables include detailed rounding and circumstances such as age, benefits and adjustment decisions. The result is an annual planning estimate rather than an exact table lookup.
Municipal tax averages 32.38% in 2026 and applies after the income-dependent basic allowance. State tax of 20% applies above SEK 643,000 of taxable earned income. The work tax credit then reduces tax, while burial and public-service fees are added.
What about the 7% pension fee?
Employees nominally pay a 7% pension fee, but it is offset by a matching tax credit, so it does not change your take-home. Like most Swedish calculators, this tool leaves it out.
Which municipal rate should I use?
The default is the 2026 national average of 32.38%. Enter the combined municipality and region rate from your tax table for a closer result, plus your parish church fee if applicable.
